What is Dial Before You Dig?

Dial Before You Dig (DBYD) is the national service that maps the location of underground utility infrastructure across Australia. Before any excavation work, builders and contractors are required by law to check DBYD to identify underground services that could be damaged.

When council requests underground services on your site plan, we submit a DBYD enquiry on your behalf, obtain the utility data for your property, and incorporate it directly into your plan, saving you the time and complexity of doing it yourself.

The data is sourced from the utility providers themselves and is as accurate as the records held by each authority.

What You Get

When council specifically requests underground services or neighbouring data.

The Technical plan is not needed for most standard applications. You'll typically only need it if your council has specifically asked for underground services or adjoining property outlines.

Council has requested underground services

If your council's requirements specifically mention underground services, Dial Before You Dig data, or utility infrastructure, the Technical plan is what you need.

Subdivisions & multi-dwelling applications

Subdivision applications and multi-dwelling developments often require a full technical plan showing services and neighbouring structures to assess infrastructure capacity and setbacks.

Commercial & industrial applications

Commercial development applications and industrial site plans routinely require underground service data and neighbouring building outlines as part of the standard submission package.

Excavation & earthworks applications

Any application involving significant excavation or earthworks will require underground service data to demonstrate that existing infrastructure won't be disturbed.

Not sure if the Technical plan is right for your application?

Give us a call or send us a message. We'll look at what your council has asked for and tell you exactly which plan you need, at no charge, before you order.
